Sing praise to God above, all ye nations.
Praise him, ye people, all ye souls on earth.
For he hath shown his kindness toward us,
His love and merciful kindness,
And the truth of God lasteth forever,
For all eternity.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
As it was then and will ever be,
Both now and always through the centuries.
Everlasting, Amen.

It takes a whole village to raise our children,
It takes a whole village to raise one child.
We all everyone must share the burden,
We all everyone will share the joy.

Serve the Lord with gladness,
and come before his presence with a song.

There’s not much text to examine in this week’s anthem, but that repetition helps reinforce the simplicity of the anthem’s message: may we serve the Lord with gladness! This clearly aligns with the theme of “Others First” in our vision frame.

It seems to me that there are probably two main categories when it comes to serving the Lord. First is in honoring the service commitments we have already made, which in our case primarily comes through the choir – our commitment to attend and participate in retreats, practices, and services. Additionally, several of us have additional responsibilities outside the choir, whether that is through deacons or elders, or other committees, or even outside the church. In these cases, our anthem calls us not only to fulfill these commitments we have made, but to do so with gladness. Certainly at times there can be a grudging sense of obligation when it comes to …

Sanctus Dominus, Deus Sabaoth. [Holy Lord, God of Hosts.]
Pleni sunt coeli et terra Gloria. [Heaven and earth are full of your glory.]

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain;
Holy, holy is he.
Sing a new song to him who sits on
Heaven’s mercy seat.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,
Who was, and is, and is to come.
With all creation I sing praise to the King of Kings.
You are my everything, and I will adore you.

Clothed in rainbows of living color,
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder;
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
To you, the only wise King.

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder,
At the mention of your name.
Jesus, your name is power, breath and living water,
Such a marv’lous mystery.

Lay aside every weight so you can run with patience this race.
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Put on the whole armor of God
so you can fight the good fight of faith.
And keep your eyes on the prize up above,
and let nothing separate you from his love.

Whatever it is that’s keeping you from serving Jesus, put off! Put off right now!
Put off that former conversation!
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Put off that lying! Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth.
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Sing to the lord and rejoice in his goodness and lift up your voices to sing of his grace.
Streams of mercy that flow from our Savior call us to songs of eternal love.
O Praise the Lord.

My soul now magnifies the Lord!
And my spirit has rejoiced in God, my Savior, my Lord.
For he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold, henceforth all generations
will call me blessed.
For he that is mighty has magnified me,
And holy is his name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him
Throughout all generations.
He has shown strength with his arm,
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And has exalted the humble and meek.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich he has sent empty away.
He, remembering mercy, has helped his servant Israel
As he promised to our fathers Abraham
and his seed forever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be.
World without end. Amen.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine.
All through the night, I’m gonna let …
